Dr. Hulsemann graduated from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, with a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy before attending Dalhousie University School of Medicine, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She joined the Royal Canadian Navy in her second year of medical school and, during her time in service, she completed a transitional year and internships in general surgery and internal medicine. She also achieved certification as a flight surgeon.

She served with international forces within NATO in Bosnia and as a general medical officer for the National Defense Center in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, before moving to the United States. She completed fellowships through the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors’ National Institute for Program Director Development and the University of Michigan’s Faculty Development Institute.

She went on to start a new Graduate Medical Education program in Monroe, Michigan, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. As its founding program director, she established a successful 6-6-6 Family Medicine Program and became the designated institutional officer, overseeing development of two other programs and co-founding the Women’s Health and Obstetrics fellowship for family medicine. Dr. Hulsemann served as chief of Family Medicine at PMRH, maintained a solo private practice and founded a free medical clinic for Monroe County. She taught the family medicine and transitional year residents at all these sites for more than a decade.

Dr. Hulsemann joined Lexington Medical Center in October 2021, bringing more than 20 years of experience in graduate medical education with her.
